Temporary road closure of Church Street between Amandel Road and Kareeboom Avenue, Kuils River

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate wants to inform residents and road users from Kuils River that a portion of Church Street, from Amandel Road to Kareeboom Avenue, will be temporarily closed to allow for roadworks. This work forms part of the City’s Congestion Management Strategy to upgrade Amandel Road into a dual carriageway to assist with alleviating traffic congestion and improving traffic flow across the Bottelary River. The temporary closure is planned from today, 4 September 2023, until 28 February 2024, weather permitting and pending any unforeseen delays.
The City is busy extending the existing dual carriageway of Amandel Road in Kuilsrivier by upgrading the current single carriageway between the Bottelary River bridge and Church Street. This includes the construction of a secondary dualled road-over-river bridge that runs parallel to the existing bridge across the Bottelary River. A separate cycling lane will be incorporated from the roundabout at Langverwacht Road through to Soneike Mall.
Residents and commuters are advised that:
- Roadworks will take place between 07:30 and 17:30 from Monday to Saturday
- Alternative routes to access Amandel Road are available via Sandalwood Road, Waternooientjie Street and Langverwacht Road.
- Road closure and detour signage will be in place to direct motorists to Amandel Road via the alternative access routes
- The work area will be demarcated to regulate traffic flow through the affected area.
